An exclusive offering for gay and lesbian travellers is the progressive Hotel Villa Roca, an idyllic spot just outside Quepos. Make the most of the wilderness surroundings with early morning yoga on the deck or wander (steeply) downhill through bamboo forests to find the hotel’s semi-private Biesanz Beach.
These events serve to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and create visibility and acceptance.
After enjoying the pride festivities in San Jose, visitors can explore other destinations in Costa Rica, such as Manuel Antonio, the “Best Gay-Friendly Beach in Costa Rica,” and enjoy the beautiful beaches, nature parks, and vibrant nightlife.
“Costa Rica’s LGBTQ+ events and festivals offer a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere for the LGBTQ+ community.
It is best to check with each specific resort regarding their pet policies to determine if they allow pets and if any additional fees or restrictions apply.

This was a fantastic activity, and we were even lucky enough to spot dolphins on our way back to Quepos.
Pedal Boarding – La Fortuna
Something new for me – pedal boarding!
This was a great way to see the stunning Lake Arenal and volcano in a completely different way than just regular paddle boarding or kayaking.
The guide was very knowledgeable about the area and the wildlife we saw.
Rise early for yoga on the elevated yoga deck or opt for an in-room massage before biking to the laidback village of Las Catalinas and kayaking in the bay. Other reasons include the hillside vistas over the Pacific Ocean and a rainforest backdrop primed for wildlife watching and trekking adventures.
The pride parade and related events are a celebration of diversity and acceptance, showcasing the rich culture and talent within the community. Instead, focus your soul with shaman-inspired spa treatments and outdoor adventures such as hiking, ziplining and white-water rafting down the Río Pacuare. There is an on-site restaurant, lounge and pool bar.

Casa 69 – San Jose
Casa 69 is owned by Steven and his 2 business partners.
Known for its laid-back vibe and inclusive atmosphere, it’s a popular spot for LGBTQ+ travelers from around the world. Here are some top recommendations for gay-friendly resorts in Costa Rica:
1. The best time to visit is during the dry season, from December to April. Origins Lodge
Off the radar in rural Costa Rica and built on a cliff amidst 120 acres of pristine forest, Origins Lodge is crowned as one of the top luxury hotels Costa Rica.
If you’re looking for a good time, here are some must-visit bars:
In San José:
La Avispa
This place is like the queen bee of gay bars, buzzing since 1979.
You’ll find awesome drink deals, themed nights, and a mix of Latin Dance, Reggaeton, and Electronica to keep you moving.
Club El Teatro
One of the biggest gay bars in San José, where the nights are as loud as the drag shows.
Expect themed nights and an open bar that’s usually included with the cover charge.
Oráculo Bar and Grill
Feeling a bit adventurous?
Rural areas, though, can be more conservative, so a bit of discretion might be wise.
Growing acceptance: Public support for LGBTQ+ rights is on the rise, especially in tourist hotspots. There are plenty of organised buses and transfers available, but they are very expensive. However, not all of them may have the same level of eco-friendly initiatives.
With 12 rooms and 5 apartments, an infinity-edge pool, and a jacuzzi, Hotel Villa Roca ensures a relaxing and enjoyable stay.
Its proximity to Manuel Antonio’s beaches and the vibrant gay community in the area makes it an ideal choice for gay travelers.
