Ronda Rousey once and Nia Jax twice.

In 2013, Baszler revealed on the MMA Roast Podcast that he is currently dating a woman. Young continued to make splashes in WWE as half of WWE players.

Beyond his achievements in the ring, Young broke the barrier as the first openly gay performer in WWE history – appeared in an interview with TMZ in 2013.

Gabby Taft

She returned to the ring in 2024

  • Tuft competed in WWE from 2007 to 2014.
  • She is an online fitness influencer.
  • She is trained to return to competition.

Gabbi Tuft has given himself quite a name for himself in the last few years as an online fitness influencer.

But would you be even more excited if all the athletes participating were queer? I thought it also would be a monumental moment because no one’s ever said it inside of a wrestling ring.

There’s always been, from an athlete perspective, a hint there, maybe a joke that references [someone being gay]. So that scared me. It’s slow, but it’s definitely changing.

What do you think the legacy of that moment will be?

I would hope it’s a moment that a lot of other people and athletes can relate to and hopefully would feel more comfortable with themselves, feel comfortable coming out.

QTV member Harley Cameron, a woman, approached Bowens about creating a “power couple,” to which Bowens replied, “Lady, I’m gay.”

As soon as he said it, the crowd erupted in cheers. He was with Loui Dondero for 40 years until his death in 1998.

Piper Niven

  • Former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion with Chelsea Green.
  • She is also wrestling with the ring name “Doudrop.”
  • As Doudrop, she challenged Becky Lynch for the Raw Women’s Championship at Royal Rumble 2022.

Piper Niven, easily known as Doudrop, is one of the great powers of WWE residents.

This would be a great time for it to be done. It was never just flat out blunt, like, “Hey, I’m gay.” And I thought, screw it. There, she did have a little bit of success in a team with Curt Hawkins (TNA's Brian Myers). To top it all off, he completes the eye-catching look with shiny Barbie-pink leather briefs that steal the spotlight.

Not to be outshined, here comes Alonzo Alvarez in a Barbie pink wrestling singlet, pink knee pads, and a confetti gun to top off the look (wish it was bedazzled and pink though).

I promise I’ll be out one day. His career began in the late 1950s and continued into 2020. There are 13 WWE wrestlers, past or present, identifying as LGBTQ.

Indy Heartwell

She was released from WWE in 2024

  • Heartwell is NXT’s multi-time champion.
  • She teamed up with Candice Lerae.
  • She is currently competing in the independent scene.

She may no longer work for WWE, but Hartwell still has a pretty big support base behind her.

In late 2021, she was released by the company a few months after making her main roster debut. The messages I’ve been getting are so emotional. In WWE, she was impressed by the ring and became both the NXT Women’s Champion and the NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion.

Many may not know that Hartwell is part of the LGBTQ+ community.

Saraya is done in AEW, but this could lead to the return of Paige, the woman who helped start the women's evolution in WWE.

Saraya, formerly known as Paige, helped revolutionize women's wrestling in the 2010s - becoming the inaugural NXT Women's Champion and a two-time Divas Champion.

While Saraya has been known for her high-profile relationships with Brad Maddox, Xavier Woods, and Alberto Del Rio - she revealed that she was actually bi on the show "Total Divas." The star was candid about her sexual experiences with women.

While he’d come out years ago, Bowens’ in-ring pronouncement during a scripted segment, as a natural part of a storyline —coupled with the crowd’s embrace — would have been unimaginable even a few years ago.

Queerness in wrestling has often been treated as a trait that makes someone a villain. In December 2022, Tegan Nox returned to the WWE - where she was prominently featured in the women's tag team division with Natalya.

The catalyst? When Adrian Adonis, a straight man, announced he was gay on WWE programming in the late 1980s, the crowd booed and an audience member yelled, “AIDS is a killer!” Pat Patterson, the first openly gay WWE wrestler, kept his boyfriend a secret for decades. Saraya was in a relationship with the lead singer of "Falling In Reverse," Ronnie Radke.
